Originally planned on being a 52 episode series, Sonic X ended up being 78 episodes long hitting North America’s television sets in 2003. Sonic X is the latest animated Sonic TV series, based on the storylines found in the Sonic Adventure series.

In this series Sonic and his friends, including Dr. Eggman, are accidentally transported to another dimension by a huge explosion of Chaos Control, and end up in the city of Station Square. Here, Sonic is saved by Chris Thorndyke from drownding in a pool. Shortly later Chris befriends Sonic and helps Sonic search for the seven chaos emeralds, before the evil Dr. Eggman uses them to take over the planet.

When the pilot episode of Sonic X was first shown a mysterious character known as "Nazo" appeared. This was first and last time this particular character ever appeared in Sonic X. Rumors about this mysterious character range expansively from being a dark version of Super Sonic, to a DragonBall Z type fusion between Sonic and Shadow, and to being the new Silver Sonic character that is to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Whoever this character might be SEGA, Sonic Team, and TMS Entertainment felt that this character was not important enough to include into the storyline of Sonic X.
