Story: "Tomorrow's the big opening day for Carnival Island, a huge amusement resort with the latest in high-tech rides and games. As guardian of the island, it's Knuckles' job to make sure nothing goes wrong before the grand event.

Unfortunately, the evil Dr. Robotnik has other plans. He needs fuel for his latest diabolical device, and the Power Emerald that supplies electricity to the entire island fits the bill perfectly. His awful new invention, the Combi Confiner, should help him get rid of that annoying echidna and his friends.

When Knuckles returns from patrolling the far end of the island, he discovers that Dr. Robotnik has imprisoned all of his friends-Espio the Chameleon, Mighty the Armadillo, Vector the Crocodile and Charmy Bee. After he chases the Doctor off, Knuckles discovers that he can rescue one friend at a time by using Ring Power... only the power that sparks between the rings holds the two partners together like a magical rubber band. Never held back for long, Knuckles finds that with a little teamwork, he can use the stretching and snapping action of the Ring Power to double – even triple – the partners' speed.

And they need all the speed they can get. As Dr. Robotnik drains the power from Carnival Island, everything on the island begins to break down! Robotnik must be stopped, or by tomorrow morning – the morning of Carnival Island's big opening day – the grand amusement park will lie in ruins!"


Stage Select
First go to the Color Test menu. Now adjust the top six numbers in the left column so that they will look like this: 06, 0B, 11, 04, 00, and 04. Next press the start button and return to the title screen. You will now see a new menu option called "Stage Select" at the bottom of the screen. In this area you can choose the stage, the Act, the time of day, the character, the partner, and 1 or 2-player mode.

Amy Rose
In the Color Test menu, adjust the top nine numbers in the left column to look like this: 00, 00, 00, 06, 0B, 11, 00, 08, and 17. Now press the start button, select Options, and go to the Sound Test area. Surprise! Amy Rose will be dancing around in the lower right-hand corner, telling you how "Cool sweet & catchy!" the music is.

Warp to the End of the Game
First choose ''World Entrance,'' and then set the level to 1, and then press the start button. You will now be place right at Metal Sonic’s rotation screen with all five zones complete.

Choose ''World Entrance,'' then set the level to 2, and then press the start button. Now you will warp straight to Metallix.

Bad Ending
If you just want to see the bad ending real quick choose “Not Used,” and then set the level to 0, and press the start button. You now will have a bad ending.

Move Anywhere in the Level
You first have to enable the Stage Select mode, and then choose the stage you wish. Now pause the game and use the direction pad to move your characters anywhere on the screen. If you hold the A button, B button, or C button down it will move the characters faster.


Change Music Tempo
This can only be done with a six-button controller. In the sound test area, while you are playing a song, press the X button to toggle between STEREO and MONO sound. You can also press the Y button to change the music's speed.

50,000 Point Bonus
After you’ve collected all the chaos rings, the special stage entrance will appear after collecting fifty rings. However, this time the stage will be in wire frame form which makes it much harder. If you finish the stage you get 50,000 points!

Playing Combos
If you want top speed go for a Mighty and Espio combo. Raw power use Heavy and Espio, and when you are face to face with one of the bosses use Charmy and Heavy.
